Engine Modification

The Fiat Marea petrol and diesel engines carry an impressive capacity of 1.2litres, 1.4litres, 1.6litres, 1.8litres and 2.0liters respectively.  However, after modification, the two models were fitted with a 1.6litres fuel engine from the initial capacity of 1.4litres and 1.2litres respectively with capability to function with either petrol or compressed natural gas.

The engine capacity was reviewed downwards in 1999 with Marea SX and ELX models being fitted with an electronic fuel injection to limit the engine power to 128bhp (95kW). However the Engine power remained at 142bhp in expensive models such as the Marea HLX model. This meant that users could still enjoy the powerful engine with Marea HLX.

The 2.0 20v Engine capacity was readjusted to 2.4 20v engine after a period of one year in the HLX Model as the SX Model began to use the 1.8 16v engine with an outstanding capacity of 132bhp while the ELX engine capacity reverted to the original capacity of 2.0 20v with 141bhp which had been initially fitted in HLX. The engine capacity was later reduced to 1.6 16v with 106bhp to work in the 2007 model after which the production of Marea fizzled out.

The models come with a calm belt engine which is very powerful and requires service after every 72,000 miles. Engine prices vary and depend on the size of the cylinder. The bigger cylinder attracts high prices.
